Our blood carries the memories and wisdom of our ancient and recent ancestors. We move through this life informed by their experiences. During psychedelic or other states of expanded consciousness, many of us have witnessed this ancestral connection. Perhaps we’ve gotten a glimpse into an ancestral insight or re-experienced an event from our own past.
Many traditions believe that ancestral intelligence resides in our blood and is passed down in utero. As the mother transfers oxygen and nutrients through the umbilical cord, the ancestral wisdom is transferred through the blood.
In the spiritual traditions Feri, Faerie and Southern Conjure, ancestor veneration is prevalent. Ancestral altars, relationship, prayer, offerings are common. Similarly, descendants occupy honored status in Feri work.
There is a belief among faerie practitioners that healing occurs forward, backwards and sideways, meaning the transformative work in which we engage to heal mentally and emotionally, as well as mind, body and spirit, can benefit those who come before us, those who are yet to incarnate, as well as the living.
How to use Innie Alchemy
Call upon your guides and ancestors as you prepare to use Innie Alchemy.
Clap three times to attract the attention of the spirit world. Say your first, middle and last names aloud. Include a married name if you have one. For trans individuals who have changed their names, use your chosen name. The spirit world honors your authentic self.
You can then repeat the following, “I call upon my ancestors and the spirits who walk with me, those who have my best interests in mind and wish to see me grow and succeed. As I heal, you heal. As I prosper, you prosper. We heal forwards, backwards and sideways.”
Pack your bellybutton with the herbal salve and envision its healing energies traveling through your umbilical cord to your mother and through her umbilical cord to her mother and through her umbilical cord to her mother and on and on. The flow of soothing, healing energy rides through the current of your blood on the beating of your heart.
You may wish to cover your navel with a bandage to protect your clothing from the oils. Sleep with the balm in your navel and record any dreams that come to you. Thank your ancestors, ancient and recent, your descendants and the spirits who walk with you for their witnessing and for doing the restorative work for the benefit of all. Work with the moon phases for specific intentions or use the salve whenever you are called.

Use your Innie Alchemy Ancestral Elixir on the full moon as a healing tool for your direct matriarchal lineage. Engage the waning for ancient ancestors. Maximize the timing of the dark moon for your descendants. Apply the salve during waxing moon for yourself and your generation.
